Select ESP mode and as long as just easy throttling/rolling through the gears it shifts up/down when I push the button. Honda redisigned the oil pressure relief valve in the pump after 2006. The noise sounds like a chain rattle but it was actually the transmission pump pistons slapping the swashplate inside the transmission. The filters and oils are new and levels correct. when I turn the key to the start position and operate the shifter it advances into D or L no problem, but after i actually start the motor the gear indicator light only flashes and transmission will not advance.I have a 2001 foreman rubicon 500 4x4. When in D1, D2 or ESP the atv is making a ratchet grinding noise similar to a stick in a car and not getting in the right gear. The atv will move but slips easily except in 3rd,4th and 5th. When in 3, 4, 5 it kinda jerks a little but doesnt grind.On my '02 rubicon the engine was removed for repair. After its installation back, there was a problem with transmission initial procedure (--- flashing) It didn't help. That I still made (after printing a lot of advices): * I have been through all of the electrical connections with contact cleaner and dielectric grease.. There is a small jam nut on the barrel adjuster on the cable, just a few inches from the red lever . Just spin the barrel adjuster counter clockwise to maybe 8-10 revolutions enough for the reverse to engage without pulling the lever. The re-tighten the jam nut....done.
